How it works

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Add your HEIC files

Drop HEIC files onto the converter, click to choose them, or paste from the clipboard. Add as many as you like.

  2. Check the settings

JPG is already selected. Adjust the quality or maximum size if you like, or keep the defaults.

  3. Download your JPG images

Each file gets its own download button as soon as it's ready. Download all saves everything in one ZIP file.

The formats

HEIC and JPG at a glance

  • What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads save photos in by default. It stores a photo in about half the space of a JPG at similar quality, and it can hold extras like depth data. Windows, many Android apps, and most websites still struggle to open it, which is why HEIC photos often need converting before you share or upload them. It opens in iPhone, iPad, and Mac (Photos and Preview), Safari, Windows 10 and 11 with Microsoft's HEIF and HEVC extensions, and recent Android phones. Most other browsers and upload forms can't open it.

  • What is a JPG file?

JPG (also written JPEG) is the most common format for photos. Its lossy compression discards detail your eye is unlikely to notice, which keeps files small, and you can trade size for quality when you save. It has no transparency, and saving the same image again and again slowly adds visible artifacts. It opens in practically everything: browsers, phones, cameras, Windows Photos, macOS Preview, Word and Google Docs, every photo editor, and every website that accepts uploads.

Good to know

What changes when you convert HEIC to JPG

  • Both formats are lossy, so the image is compressed again. Keep the quality at 90% or higher to avoid visible artifacts.
  • Live Photos and bursts convert as a single still photo, and HDR photos are converted to standard range.
  • Metadata such as the camera model, date, and GPS location isn't copied to the new file, so you don't share your location by accident.
  • Very large images, around 100 megapixels or more, can exceed what the browser allows, especially on phones.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is lossy, so it introduces a small second compression step. A quality setting around 90 keeps the difference hard to see while producing a file that opens almost everywhere.

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many files you convert. It costs Ethical Tube nothing to run, because the conversion happens on your own device rather than on a server.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser with the browser's built-in image codecs plus small WebAssembly encoders, so your files never leave your device. Once the page has loaded, it even works offline.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

A little, because JPG is a lossy format. At the default quality of 90% the difference is hard to see. Raise the quality toward 100% to keep more detail, or lower it to make smaller files.

Can I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC photos?

Yes. Open Settings, tap Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG, and videos as H.264. Photos you already took stay HEIC, so convert those here.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like. They're converted one after another, and you can download each JPG file as soon as it's ready or all of them in one ZIP file.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac, and Windows?

Yes. It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on computers, iPhones, and Android phones.

What can open a JPG file?

Practically everything: browsers, phones, cameras, Windows Photos, macOS Preview, Word and Google Docs, every photo editor, and every website that accepts uploads.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. The practical limit is your device's memory: everyday files are fine, and most computers handle images up to about 100 megapixels.
